How Tennis Ball Machine Works

Tennis machines have significantly improved the game of tennis. You no longer have to worry about hiring a good coach, begging a training partner for support during important training or even contending with a lazy buddy more eager at storytelling than volleying your ball. Tennis ball machines are available – reliable, fast and portable.

Before we enjoy the games with the device, it is necessary to comprehend how they function. To do this, we have to dissect the internal components of the tennis ball launcher and describe how each part is related to the other. Further, a description of how this inter linkages blend to project a perfect serve in your court will explain how the tennis ball machine operates.

Inlet Opening:

There is an opening along the body of the tennis machines set to receive the tennis balls. Depending on the capacity of the machine, the number of balls can vary from 20 to 300. The ball holder has a chute which directs the ball to the ball hold compartment of the machine.

The inside of any tennis machine has geared wheels which are set to work together. Depending on the design of the equipment, these wheels get configured in either a horizontal or vertical elevation.  They are known as the delivery wheels

There are many connecting comprising simple couplings, assemblies and pulleys. The two wheels coupled to each other by a motor. The motor, which has variable speeds, is powered from either be from a battery which is inbuilt in the unit or a direct current for an electrical socket. There is an ON/OFF button to regulate the flow of power to the equipment is useful in turn on the apparatus.

Ball Thrust Bearings:

The assembly above get support from a frame making the rotation of the wheels possible. The rotation of these wheels is through a large bearing. The motor initiates the vertical rotations of the wheels and a gear reduction drive. These wheels are designed to move counter of each other. It is the movement of this system that allows the deposition of a new ball into the launch chamber. Pneumatic pressure triggers the motion of the wheels.

Launch Chamber:

There is a gap between the two wheels. The opening acts as a cassette to hold the ball to intended to be projected from the ball machine. The ball travels from the storage area to this location when it is ready for shooting. The area can be called the launch chamber. Once the tennis ball is set well in the launch chamber, a switch activates the motor which generates a high pressure within this compartment.

Outlet Opening:

The right amount of pressure is compressed, depending on the desired speed, which makes the two wheels to rotate, releasing the tennis ball under a great velocity and pressure through the exit opening.

Of course, the above description is the basic concept on how the automatic ball launcher operates. There are variations in the mechanical arrangements and way a high-capacity, heavy-duty tennis machines and an essential portable devices functions. However,  the fundamental concept of how they work remains the same.
